  Can someone tell me whether a 1970s Watchtower .............

  but that he is only the mediator for the faithful & discreet slave class.

  it then follows that most of the bible was not written for the rest of us who must rely on the eartly organisation as our mediator for salvation.

  I still don't see any change re the other sheep... just the timing of the separating of the sheep and the goat. My understanding is that the 'other sheep' is the group of 'honest-hearted ones' who began to be gathered around 1935 and who would see the great tribulation.

  So they still refer to this group as the other sheep.

  What's interesting is that the Society claimed that the great crowd did not begin to be gathered too soon, that some of the original members of the great crowd would be around to see the the great tribulation. This was in one of the pocket-sized books from the late eighties... don't have it on hand. So again, another date that is an albatross around the Society's neck.

  Gary,

  This is before the other sheep were eliminated as an already identified earthly class in 1995. Now, either the great crowd has to be separated from the other sheep, and if it is the great crowd has to be a heavenly class. If it is an earthly class and tied to the other sheep, it can't be identified yet.

  Can you expand on this? What changed in 1995 in regards to the other sheep?

What do those ones that picked him have for brains? I am sure there was someone just as quailified that is a lot younger. Reminds me of the WT GB. Will

  1914 was 91 years ago... and the last I heard some ppl of that "generation" were going to live to see the end.

  If you factor in the "age of understanding" even being generous and saying it is like 10years old... how many ppl do you know who were 10 years old in 1914 are still alive now?

  You apparently have not heard the New Light on this topic. They dropped the idea of some from the 1914 generation being alive to see the end back in 1995... wow its been 10 years. Although dont' feel bad, I don't think a lot of current JWs have even comprehended what a big adjustment this is.

  Also, I dont know about every where else in the world but in Montreal, QC they are loosing control of their young people. I left to be with a non-witness and since then I have seen about 6 different young people from the same congergation engaging in "inappropriate behavior". (and those are the ones I happened to run into!) None of them were disfellowshipped... they are acting. There is a serious epidemic of "double-life" going on.

  Ok this along with the Internet, is their biggest problem, and not just in Montreal. The kids ain't just buying into it. And they know how to work the system so they can avoid DFing.

  It will be very interesting when 2014 rolls around, will there be more or less JWs than there are now...

  Star Trek: Enterprise

  my local upn station keeps moving enterprise around.

  sometimes it's on friday, sometimes it's on wednesdays, sometimes it's not on at all.

  so as a result i haven't watched more than a couple of espisodes this season.

  Enterprise needed to be put out of its misery. It suffered from the same affliction Voyager had, interesting concept, horrible execution. Like Deep Space Nine, each show started out with a premise that was a variation on the standard Star Trek format. Deep Space Nine, however, actually dared to try new things, like marrying off main characters, a slightly darker vision of the Federation, adversaries that were not 2-dimensional bad guys, limited use of technobabble as a way of resolving a crisis, etc. Voy andand Enterprise squandered their uniqueness and turned into clones of Next Gen by the end of the first season. Both shows also suffered from some incredibly lame acting(Harry Kim, Captain Janeway) and/or lack of serious character development(Mayweather, Hoshi). Deep Space Nine not only developed the main characters, they worked in almost a dozen supporting characters, each with their own backstory.

  So let Trek rest, I am enjoying the new Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate is still somewhat entertaining.

  back in the 1960s there was, seemingly, a brief period of relaxation in authoritarianism among jehovah's witnesses.

  those who have read raymond franz's 'crisis of conscience' will have heard the story about dan sydlik's remark about the need to 'open some windows to let some air in here'.

  Only one problem with your first point, Eduardo... the clock stopped ticking a long time ago. The number of "anointed" has been around 8,000... for the last 20 years. Is this logical? According to WT belief, as you pointed out, these ones should all be in their 70's, at least, even if we have a few replacements.

  At worst they will receive new light, that the end will come after all the anointed have died and been resurrected. It wouldn't be that much of a stretch, I think at one time they actually did teach this.

  At any rate, its very plain that the r&f witness was never that good at math in the first place.

  ZOD rocks! He was the coolest villain of the Superman movies, so totally arrogant.

  Most of you probably knew this, but Terence Stamp, the actor who played Zod, now plays (the voice of ) Jo-rel on Smallville.

  And it sounds like there will be a new Superman movie shortly, Bryan Singer(X-Men, X-Men II) is directing, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, some unknown guy as Clark/Superman. Can't wait!
